The ART of Flight

This is one of the most insane natural phenomenon I've ever seen.  If you've never had a chance to see the Purple Martins down in the Shockoe Bottom area in the summer, please do your research and check em out.  They aren't quite as awesome as this video, but they're pretty close.

This site was shared with me by Lauren Albee, a former DRHSART student and  current student at the VCU Brandcenter.  If it's being shared by a student there, it's absolutely worth your time.  I highly recommend that all my students click the link above and explore some of the many resources that this site has to offer.

Is Everything Connected?

The Power of Ten

Powers of Ten takes us on an adventure in magnitudes. Starting at a picnic by the lakeside in Chicago, this famous film transports us to the outer edges of the universe. Every ten seconds we view the starting point from ten times farther out until our own galaxy is visible only a s a speck of light among many others. Returning to Earth with breathtaking speed, we move inward- into the hand of the sleeping picnicker- with ten times more magnification every ten seconds. Our journey ends inside a proton of a carbon atom within a DNA molecule in a white blood cell. POWERS OF TEN © 1977 EAMES OFFICE LLC (Available at www.eamesoffice.com)

Thoughts about Social Media

How are you taking advantage of Social Media for your brand as an artist?

Mobile Technology and Social Media Are Not Going Anywhere.

Watch this short infographic video about the influx of social media in our culture as of 2011.  Keep in mind that this information is already obsolete, since the population and growth of smartphone use has increased substantially since the video was made.  How are you taking advantage of the social media wave?

Get your work out there, and brand yourself carefully.  What's out there stays out there, and whatever you post is seen by many.

RSA Animate - Creative Lecture Series

I find these RSA Animate videos fascinating because they help the viewer visualize what is being said.  This animated series of lectures is becoming increasingly popular among intellectuals, which serves as proof that creativity truly matters.  In this post, I have highlighted some of my favorites from the RSA animate series.

DRIVE: The surprising truth about what motivates us.....

This particular lecture by Daniel Pink gives insight into just what motivates us to do our best work. If these words resonate with you, consider purchasing the books "A Whole New Mind" and "Drive".

Changing Education Paradigms

Sir Ken Robinson is and incredibly popular figure in contemporary education, whose ideas are revolutionizing the way we teach.  Robinson isn't afraid to point out the inherent flaws of our educational systems, and offers some suggestions for how we can steer this ship into a more innovative direction.

The Power of Outrospection

In the arts, we hear a lot about introspection.  But what about "outrospection"?  How important is it, and how can it help us shape our future? Philosopher and author Roman Krznaric explains how we can help drive social change by stepping outside ourselves.

WHERE GOOD IDEAS COME FROM by Steven Johnson

One of our most innovative, popular thinkers takes on-in exhilarating style-one of our key questions: Where do good ideas come from?  This short video dissects the spaces that traditionally produce the emergence of innovative and creative ideas.  This video is worth viewing more than once.

Let's Talk About DESIGN

Startups, this is how design works.

I highly recommend checking out the link above and spending some time looking through the content on the site.  Design is all around us, and is the fabric of every good idea you've ever seen or heard about.  It was Paul Rand who once said "Design is the foundation of all the arts", and I'd like to borrow his words but tweak them to read "Design is the foundation of everything".
